Our Faith
Church of the Apostles is a member parish of the Anglican District of Virginia in the Convocation of Anglicans in North America. We are also a member parish of and the Network of Anglican Communion Dioceses and Parishes, and an affiliated parish of the American Anglican Council.
Church of the Apostles has long been concerned about changes within the Episcopal Church in the United States of America (ECUSA) that have placed the future of the church in jeopardy. In 1996, we became a founding member parish of the American Anglican Council and its Virginia chapter.
Statement of Faith
Church of the Apostles was founded in 1968. This Statement of Faith was written in December 1971.
"They first gave themselves unreservedly to God .
. ."
2 Corinthians 8.5
Today we declare that we will:
- Love the Lord our God with all our hearts, with all our minds, with all our souls, and love our neighbors as ourselves.
- Choose this day to serve our Lord.
- Commit to seek an ever closer relationship with God through his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.
- Believe the Bible is God’s Word. We will believe the miracles of God as described in his Word and believe God is still at work in our times.
- Seek his Holy Spirit in all that we do and when we have received his inspiration and revelation, proceed confidently as he directs.
- Look to the living Christ as the foundation of the church, of our worship, and of our lives.
- Accept the beautiful simplicity of the Apostles’ Creed as an accurate, concise statement of our faith:
- I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead. - I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen
