Deaf Ministry
Church of the Apostles believes that God speaks every language, including Sign Language. We desire to see deaf individuals included fully in the community life and ministry of the church, and encouraged to use their God-given gifts.
Sign Language Interpretation
The Deaf Ministry at Church of the Apostles provides Sign Language interpretation at our 11:00 am Sunday worship services, as well as other special events and classes at the church.
Sign Language interpretation is often available by request at special activities such as the Women's Ministry Retreat 2002. If there is an activity where you would like to see Sign Language interpretation provided, please contact deafministry@churchoftheapostles.org.
Workshops
We offer American Sign Language (ASL) workshops for adults, with simultaneous workshops offered for children aged 3-7 years old. These workshops are available to everyone, regardless of prior experience with Sign Language, and are centered around a common theme such as "Signing Emotions." Our time together includes a shared meal. Typically, the workshops are held monthly, at 1:30 pm following our Sunday worship services. For more information about Sign Language Workshops, please contact us.
Home Group
Church of the Apostles has a home group that is able to provide sign interpretation for deaf individuals. We meet on Sunday afternoons from 2:00 pm–5:00 pm. The Home Group begins with a shared meal which is followed by a Bible study or a time of prayer. From time to time the Home Group makes field trips to signed plays. The Home Group does not meet on Sundays when Sign Language workshops are scheduled. For more information, please contact us.
Other Activities
Currently, the Deaf Ministry is exploring more opportunities for deaf individuals within the congregation and the community as well. Our desire is to develop retreats and seminars for deaf individuals and their families. We will share further details as these dreams become a reality.
