Weekend Worship Services | Summers
Nursery Care
Nursery care is available for infants through age 3 during both the Saturday evening and Sunday morning services. We like to think of our Nursery as a garden where seeds of God’s love are planted and nurtured to help our smallest ones grow in God’s love. In addition we have a short Bible lesson for 2 and 3 year-olds. Your child is given loving care in a safe and secure environment that is staffed by trained leaders and parent volunteers. Each child is registered. Parents of infants and younger toddlers will be given a silent pager that will alert you should your child need you during the service.
Sunday School
Our Sunday School for 4-year-olds through rising 6th Graders is offered during the 10:00am service. In a tradional classroom format, we focus on discipleship, worship, prayer, and our relationship with God and others. Here also, drama, music, liturgy, discussion, and games bring important lessons to life, making them relevant and applicable. Class placement is based on your child’s age and grade level in September.
Children remain in the sanctuary with their families at the beginning of the service to participate in the opening worship. Following a brief children’s message, the children are dismissed to class for small group discussions, activities, and individual prayer. Children return to the sanctuary during announcements so they may participate in Holy Communion with their families.
Baptism
Throughout the year, Baptism is offered for infants and children during our Sunday worship services throughout the year. On the Saturday morning prior to Baptism Sunday, a preparation class is held for children ages 4-12. If you are interested in Baptism for your child or want to learn when our next Baptism is scheduled, please call the church office at 703-591-1974.
Communion
If their parents choose, baptized children are welcome to receive Holy Communion at Church of the Apostles.
Children who would like to learn more about the sacrament have an opportunity to participate in a 3-week class that will explain the whys and hows of this central act of our worship. This class is offered periodically throughout the year. Call Kristin for more information at 703-591-1974.
