Local Missions

FACETS (Fairfax Area Christian Emergency and Transitional Services) is a partnership of churches, businesses and service groups in the Fairfax area that seeks to respond to the multiple needs of homeless and low-income families living in the community. Members from Apostles minister with FACETS, on the second Tuesday of each month, to help meet the needs of homeless and low income families by providing meals to those living in motels in Fairfax City.

The Grate Patrol joins the Salvation Army in feeding some of the homeless in Washington, D.C. on the first and second Thursdays of each month. Participants can grocery shop, prepare hot meals and sandwiches, or help deliver the meals—with a representative from the Salvation Army—along a designated route in D.C. The ministry also distributes clothes, coats, shoes, and Bibles as donated, and always offers prayer, encouragement, acceptance and affirmation to the homeless.

The Lamb Center is a local ecumenically sponsored day shelter providing a number of services to the homeless and poor in our community. Assistance and services offered include hot meals, showers and laundry facilities, and help in locating employment and housing, and helping kids with their homework through the Lamb Center’s Study Buddy program. Volunteers are always needed in these areas as well as help with bible study, and prayer. It’s a place where lives are being transformed daily through the power of Christ, and the hands and compassion of loving believers.

The Nursing Home Ministry is an outreach ministry that provides personal visits to residents of the Fairfax Nursing Center. Volunteers can love, honor, and minister to those in either the temporary or permanent housing at the facility. Volunteers may visit the Center as their schedule allows, either on their own or with a volunteer partner of their choosing. In addition, The Center provides a variety of planned activities around the Northern Virginia area where volunteers can assist the Nursing Center Staff while also having the opportunity to interact with the residents.

One-time attendance at a 90-minute orientation is required prior to serving as a volunteer. The orientation is held at Fairfax Nursing Center twice a month on Saturday mornings.

Prison Ministry works in conjunction with the Good News Jail and Prison Ministry at the Fairfax Adult Detention Center. In cooperation with the Good News Chaplain at the Center, we provide support to incarcerated men and women through Bible teaching, mentoring, and the Prison Aftercare mentoring program. The Good News Jail and Prison Ministry is a multi-denominational Christian program.

Prison Aftercare is a multi-denominational Christian program working in cooperation with the chaplain at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Its purpose is to assist inmates at the Detention Center to improve their opportunities to grow spiritually, to access available resources in the community and to build more constructive lives following their release from prison. This ministry provides support to believing inmates who specifically request help and who are screened and recommended for participation by the Chaplain at the facility. Church members who volunteer to serve as Aftercare Ministers are required to complete an 8-week training course which includes an introduction to counseling and listening skills, substance abuse as well as instruction in assisting residents toward spiritual growth.
