Journeying Through Lent to Easter 2017

Daniel Bonner

This year, Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, March 1

Lent is a time of preparation for meeting our Risen Lord on Resurrection/Easter Sunday, which is the traditional and fitting time for Baptisms and Confirmations. During Lent, many Christians commit to fasting or giving up certain types of luxuries as a form of penance. Many Christians also add a Lenten spiritual discipline, such as reading a daily devotional or praying through a Lenten calendar, to draw themselves nearer to God.  This year at Apostles, we have the following schedule in place so we may journey together through Lent. At the heart of our Lenten theme will be reconciliation, which on God’s terms, Biblical terms go beyond forgiveness to loving embrace.

Guest speaker: The Rev’d Joshua Ruiter

Reconciliation is not a destination but a resting place on our journey with Jesus. Reconciliation with God is the pathway to living into the relationship that we have with Him through Jesus Christ, This is illuminated for us in 2 Corinthians 5:17-18: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling, the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.

There will teaching, an opportunity for personal reflection, lively group discussion, interactive exercises, and confession. The retreat will conclude with a worship service to include communion.
