Week 3: Listening and Learning from the Word of God

Daniel Bonner

March 19, 2017
Lenten Series
Alleluia: Amen

Bible Lesson:

Matthew 7:24-27

Memory Verse for the Week:

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like the man who built his house on the rock." - Matthew 7:24

Something to Discuss:

  1. What does the "Liturgy of the Word" mean?

  2. What are the parts that make up the "Ministry of the Word"?

  3. What is a "testimony" and why is it important for us to listen to them?

  4. What is a sermon?

  5. Why is reading from the Bible an important part of the liturgy?

  6. Why do we pray the "Collect for the Day"?

  7. Why do we sing a song before the Gospel is read and why do we stand up while it is

    being read?

  8. How does our Sunday School time give the children a sermon?

Something to Do:

Talk with your child about what you do while he/she is in Sunday School. Also have your child tell you about what he/she does while you are in the Sanctuary.

Have your child or your child and each person in the family write a short sermon about any of the following:

  1. A topic that is important to him/her

  2. A lesson God taught him/her

  3. A question about life and a possible answer he/she has found

  4. A problem in life and a possible solution

  5. How to...(examples: listen to God, be kind, be courageous, say no to temptations, etc.)
