Church of the Apostles in Fairfax, Virginia, is seeking a Rector to lead us in a new season as we transition to a meeting place of our own after seven years in temporary locations. Depending on the applicant’s level of experience, there will be an overlap as Coadjutor for three to six months, while serving with the pastoral leadership team and working alongside our current Rector in all facets of church leadership. Following this brief transition period, the applicant will become the new Rector.

During the overlap period, the applicant will also encourage and guide our team of lay and ordained pastors at Apostles Campus Church– our Anglican expression of church on the campus of nearby George Mason University – which is “a multi-ethnic church… creating a grace-filled home through connection with God, to raise up a new generation of leaders to serve Christ’s Church.”

  • Pastor the congregation and wider community, extending God’s love, grace, mercy, and truth.

  • Preach the Gospel, expounding the Scriptures faithfully and bringing them to life with confidence and enthusiasm.

    • In collaboration with our staff, interns, parents, and volunteers, assess our youth ministry to determine ways in which it can be strengthened over the next few years, especially as several new families with younger children have begun attending.  Integrate youth with worship, discipleship, and other ministries and activities of the wider congregation and the local community.

    • Assist the Director of the Children’s and Family Ministry in the organization and availability of Sunday school for all children and youth, as well as retreats and camp activities.

    • Work with the lay leadership of Apostles Campus Church to help students to develop healthy relationships with one another, their families, and members of the community.

  • Strong faith in, and relationship with, Jesus Christ

  • Recognition of the Bible as the inspired, inerrant Word of God, containing all things necessary for salvation

  • Open to the guidance and gifts of the Holy Spirit, anticipating the miraculous works of God

  • Great passion for bringing the lost to faith and helping believers to grow in Christ, including an understanding of, or acquaintance with, other faith traditions, particularly of those whom we seek to reach in our diverse surrounding community

  • Commitment to the “Three Streams, One River” expression of Anglican worship, fully embracing the Sacramental/Catholic, Biblical/Evangelical, and Charismatic/Pentecostal in balance

  • Enthusiastic teacher and leader, able to motivate others

  • Visionary leader who can shepherd the congregation toward effective, long-term ministry in our new location

  • Comfort in engaging people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds

  • Ability to work well with Vestry and lead a cohesive team

  • Ordained to Holy Orders in the office of Priest in the Anglican Church in North America, or be eligible for transfer into the ACNA

  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to delegate responsibilities appropriately

  • Some high school/college ministry experience is desirable

  • Foreign language competence beneficial but not required

  • Willingness to receive continuing training and coaching
