Church of the Apostles in Fairfax, Virginia, is seeking a Rector to lead us in a new season as we transition to a meeting place of our own after seven years in temporary locations. Depending on the applicant’s level of experience, there will be an overlap as Coadjutor for three to six months, while serving with the pastoral leadership team and working alongside our current Rector in all facets of church leadership. Following this brief transition period, the applicant will become the new Rector.
During the overlap period, the applicant will also encourage and guide our team of lay and ordained pastors at Apostles Campus Church– our Anglican expression of church on the campus of nearby George Mason University – which is “a multi-ethnic church… creating a grace-filled home through connection with God, to raise up a new generation of leaders to serve Christ’s Church.”
Pastor the congregation and wider community, extending God’s love, grace, mercy, and truth.
Preach the Gospel, expounding the Scriptures faithfully and bringing them to life with confidence and enthusiasm.
With the Holy Spirit’s guidance, lead the Vestry and congregation in discerning God’s will for Church of the Apostles and its Mission and Vision.
Build relationships in the surrounding community with the goal of extending the Kingdom of God.
Equip the leaders of each ministry to fulfill our Mission and Vision. In particular:
In collaboration with our staff, interns, parents, and volunteers, assess our youth ministry to determine ways in which it can be strengthened over the next few years, especially as several new families with younger children have begun attending. Integrate youth with worship, discipleship, and other ministries and activities of the wider congregation and the local community.
Assist the Director of the Children’s and Family Ministry in the organization and availability of Sunday school for all children and youth, as well as retreats and camp activities.
Work with the lay leadership of Apostles Campus Church to help students to develop healthy relationships with one another, their families, and members of the community.
