Date Night 2.0

Second Saturday of the Month, 5:00pm - 8:00pm
Pender Dr. Office & Community Center
Registration Cost: $35/Couple (includes all dates and book)
Free Childcare with Registration

The Healing Center is pleased to announce that we will be bringing back Date Night. Last year, the purpose of the 10 Great Dates program was to help couples build their relationship through dating. Each Date Night will include a brief word of encouragement, and an overview of the topic which will set the stage for discussion. Couples are then sent out for their own private date. Free childcare will be available for children up to age 11 (6th grade) beginning at 4:45pm and ending 8:00pm.

This year we are adding a new dimension to the Date Night Program, Date Night 2.0. These dates are crafted to help you connect faith, love, and marriage in ways that result in a deeper spiritual connection—in a fun, grace-filled, safe format. Engaged couples, newlyweds and “oldy-weds” are encouraged to attend!

You may be feeling apprehensive or skeptical. Jack and I understand completely (as do the authors of the book). Many have the deep desire to connect more spiritually with their spouse but they may have found it difficult. If so, you are not alone.  It is time to put away your doubts, concerns, regrets, and should-haves, and join us on fun dates that can jump-start spiritual growth and put new excitement and energy into this very important aspect of your relationship.

The Dates will be held on the second Saturday of each month. Monthly attendance is not required; however, there is great benefit to participating regularly. Dates will begin at 5:00pm in the Chapel at the Pender Dr. office.

The cost of participation is $35.00 per couple for all Ten Dates and the book. There will be a chance to win fabulous prizes each Date Night. Please do not let the cost prohibit your participation, scholarships are available. Advance registration for Childcare is required. Registration details below.

Dates:

  • June 8: Guarding Your Heart Under God’s Canopy/Making Your Marriage a Light House

If you have any questions regarding Date Night, please email or call Kristin Colligan at kcolligan@churchoftheapostles.org or at 703-591-1974.

Facing Life's Losses Grief Seminar

Facing Life's Losses Grief Seminar

Saturday, June 8, 10am - 1pm
Pender Drive Office and Community Center
Childcare Provided
Registration Required

What is it like to “Face Life’s Losses?”

Life is full of painful losses that must be grieved, but many of us have found that our culture does not welcome grief nor supply the support we need to face the pain and move toward surrendering it.

We would like to offer this gathering on Saturday, June 8, to 1) support each other as we embrace the journey of grieving, 2) increase our understanding of grief and loss in its many forms and experience the comfort and freedom that Christ offers us, 3) assess participant interest in an ongoing structured caring/sharing group  to support each other and/or a series of experiential workshops that offer both deeper learning and healing.

This seminar will be an interactive time together that looks at grief through a broad lens, exploring what we grieve, how we grieve, and the journey through grief with Christ. It will introduce foundational elements from the class, “Facing Life’s Losses” that broaden understanding of grief and loss, not just about loss through death. We will:

·     Discuss relational circuits and strategies to help us connect to ourselves, others and the Lord.

·     Introduce and experience Immanuel prayer.

·     Introduce journaling with the Lord about our blessings, losses and regrets.

·     Offer freedom to honestly explore ALL our feelings.

·     Introduce the complexities of offering and receiving forgiveness

·     Give an overview of a structured caring/sharing group that offers shared support.

·     Give an overview of the full class content for “Facing Life’s Losses”

·     Survey the group as to interest and availability for both a class and a caring and sharing group.

The seminar will be facilitated by Lib Gillam, MSW, LCSW, a member of our congregation, using materials developed and adapted by Betsy Stalcup, Director, Healing Center International. Come if you’re hurting or know someone who is, if you’re curious, if you’re a quiet observer or enjoy verbal sharing. There is never any pressure to share. All are welcome and valued!

Please register using the link below. Registration is free, but the Facing Life’s Losses Facilitator’s Guide and Workbook are available for purchase for $29.00 and $16.00 respectively. Childcare will also be provided.

Child Protection Training

Saturday, April 13, 9am-1pm
Pender Dr. Office & Community Center

At Church of the Apostles, we believe that protecting children is a mandate from the Lord found in Matthew 18:5-6In order to safeguard our children and protect them from abuse, extensive training is provided for those working with children and youth and who have leadership responsibilities in other areas of ministry. This training is mandatory for all new Vestry members and workers in Children and Youth ministry. Also, we encourage all members of the congregation to consider attending as we believe knowledge is power and we have a moral obligation to protect God’s children. You can read Bishop John Guernsey’s letter commending the training as well as the Protection of Children Policy for the Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic.

As one continues volunteering in various areas of ministry within the church, Child Protection training along with a background check is renewed every 2 years. To renew Child Protection training, one can take the training online through Ministry Safe or attend the classroom training here at Apostles or at All Saint’s Church, Woodbridge. Pam Marsh, parish secretary, manages the database and paperwork to maintain compliance with the diocese. She will send out reminders regarding the training renewal. The reminders come directly from Ministry Safe and are accompanied by a code to enter for you to log-in. Pam receives an email and documentation upon completion of the on-line training.

To register for the class, please email Pam Marsh or call the church office at 703-591-1974.  Please email Kristin Colligan if you have any questions.

We will provide the book to you in advance if you pre-register by October 8, 2018. Please do not let the cost prohibit your participation, scholarships are available. Advance registration for Childcare is required. Please register by October 8, 2018 so that we can plan for enough materials and adequate childcare. Registration details below.

Dates:

  • March 9: Talking Together with God

  • April 13: Building Your Marriage on a Strong Foundation

  • May 11: Facing the Storms of Life Together

  • June 8: Guarding Your Heart Under God’s Canopy/Making Your Marriage a Light House

If you have any questions regarding Date Night, please email or call Kristin Colligan at kcolligan@churchoftheapostles.org or at 703-591-1974.
