As His followers, ones who sit at the feet of Jesus, we are to be like Him, serving one another as we serve him, and seeking to build one another up in humility and love. Continuing in Greg Ogden’s text “Discipleship Essentials” in the Chapter called Adoption, not only are we Jesus followers but we are like Him, and as beautifully expressed in 1 John 3:1-2:

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

We are to serve and lavish love on one another just as Jesus did. Jesus served his disciples by washing their feet on the evening of the Last Supper (John 13), and went on to instruct them: If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. (John 13:14-17). While Jesus calls us from where and who we are, dirt and all, he calls us to change, to live into the joy of being adopted daughters and sons of our loving heavenly father. We will experience the joy of change that comes with inheritance we are called to live into as children of God.

Please make reservations below or by calling Pam Marsh at the office, 703-591-1974. Childcare is available by reservation.

For those who may prefer, we have hand washing available instead of foot-washing
