The "father of modern missions" William Carey famously said, "Expect great things from God! Attempt great things for God!" There is certainly nothing wrong with having godly ambition and a zeal for God's purposes to be advanced in the world. However, ambition and zeal become problematic when they are tainted by our sinful pride. If we are looking for special treatment because we are doing the Lord's work, we'll often be disappointed. The reward itself is the privilege of serving King Jesus.
